Standard Midwifery Services
Paying for midwifery services can be as individual as the care you receive, but in general, you’re paying for these standard midwifery services:
- Prenatal Care
- Labor & Birth Care
- Postpartum Care
- Newborn Care
- Water birth
- Specimen collection such as blood draws and Pap smears (lab costs not included)
- On call availability for urgent questions, problems, and of course the birth!
Prices are estimates and subject to change. While we are open to billing your insurance, many of them don’t cover home birth or licensed midwives. The typical base cost for all these services is $6000. There is a 30% early payment discount for funds deposited by your second prenatal. For example, if you were to prepay for the typical cost of $6,000 you’d get a discount of $1,800, bringing the cost to $4,200.
*There may be additional costs if the birth team requires extra members, there is significant travel involved in your care, etc. All will be discussed on a case by case basis.
Other Services/Additional Expenses
Not all services that may be necessary during care are provided by the midwife. Some of them may be covered by insurance, even if it doesn’t cover home birth. These are all something we can discuss during care.
- Ultrasounds
- Lab work
- Physician Consult
- Bodywork (massage, chiropractic care, CranioSacral therapy, etc)
- Lactation Consultation, for nursing difficulties unresolved by the midwifery team
Insurance
People often want to know if insurance will cover their birth. The answer is complex, at best. Even within a single company, different plans have different coverage for midwives and home birth. We are willing to bill your insurance if you have it but also know that we do offer pre-payment discounts and can make a custom payment plan. We can also bill OHP (Oregon Medicaid), but there are additional steps that may be required for approval from OHP. You can learn more in our Questions section. If you don’t see the answer to your specific question, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
Other Services
Are you looking for something beyond our standard midwifery services? Our providers do offer other types of care and services. Some of these are provided at Bridge Town Midwifery, while others are provided at separate businesses.

Consultation/Education Services
Home birth isn’t the right fit for everyone and we understand. That being said, we still find that our care can add value to your pregnancy journey. If you’re planning a hospital birth because of higher risks or because that’s where you feel safest, we can still be available to you in the form of supportive care. That can mean going through your records together to help understand your situation, options, and what you might be able to expect from hospital care. We can also provide the holistic support that midwives are known for. This includes talking about diet, exercise/movement, problem solving common discomforts, emotional well being, and more.
Since the midwives won’t be responsible for your clinical care or on call for attending your birth, we can provide this kind of care virtually for anyone in Oregon. This service can be customized to fit your needs. It may look like a private childbirth education class or we may have a few visits throughout your care that look more like the typical midwifery care.
